Exams and Preps > Dexa Bone Densitometry
DEXA is an acronym for “dual energy x-ray absorption”. It is a very common test used to diagnose bone mineral density. It is probably the easiest, most comfortable exam available. The patient simply lays on a padded table, holds still and breathes normally. It’s quick, approximately 15 minutes, completely painless and has extremely low radiation exposure.
Many physicians order this exam as part of a woman’s health series. Every other year, Bone Densitometry can be conveniently scheduled with your mammogram.
This exam is offered at both our Silverdale and South Kitsap Women's Diagnostic Center locations.

If you have had a nuclear study or x-ray/CT scan using barium contrast, you will need to wait one week before having your DEXA scan. Wear comfortable clothes. Please do not wear large buckles or snaps.
