PECOS Enrollment

As of July 6th, 2010 all clinicians who refer Medicare patients for medical imaging services must have a current enrollment record in the PECOS system or the submitted claim will be rejected.  To continue to refer services to Medicare beneficiaries, it is necessary to submit an enrollment application by either internet-based PECOS or the appropriate paper enrollment application.  Click the link below for further information on PECOS enrollment.  If you have questions or need assistance, please contact our Marketing Department at 360-337-6530.

New High Field MRI Installed at AMI Silverdale

Advanced Medical Imaging is pleased to announce the recent installation of a new High Field MRI for their Silverdale location.  The latest-generation magnetic resonance imaging scanner offers some of the clearest images available.  According to Michael Cook, MD, Medical Director for Advanced Medical Imaging, "This piece of medical imaging equipment is of tremendous diagnostic benefit to the community, and we are pleased to be able to offer this important improvement in healthcare to our patients.  The 1.5 Tesla magnet lets physicians see clearer internal images like never before, so they can make the most informed decisions about patient care."

This new MRI system is great for:

  • general abdominal imaging
  • high-resolution peripheral angiography
  • spine imaging
  • high resolution static and dynamic joint studies
  • free breathing coronary artery imaging
  • neurological scans
  • breast imaging
  • cardiac imaging

Patient comfort is a priority and the fast scanning times with this equipment allow for only 15 to 40 minutes for most studies.  The compact design makes it less intimidating in appearance, the color scheme reduces the feeling of claustrophobia and most scans can be conducted with the head entirely outside the opening.

The outstanding image quality allows our radiologists to identify potential problems and provide the referring physician with more information for a more accurate diagnosis.  We can diagnose many different anatomical and structural problems in the human body including:

  • musculoskeletal imaging
  • neurological imaging
  • vascular system imaging
  • spectroscopy of the brain and internal organs
  • cardiac MR imaging
  • body imaging
  • breat imaging

Direct Digital Mammography

Direct digital mammography has replaced traditional film mammography at our Women's Diagnostic Center in Silverdale and Port Orchard.  There are many advantages of Digital Mammography which include:

  • Higher detection rate of breast cancer in women under 50 years of age
  • Higher detection rate of breast cancer in women with dense breast tissue
  • Reduced radiation dose over film mammography by up to 40%
  • Excellent image quality, superior contrast resolution especially in dense breast tissue, and the ability to electronically manipulate images might make for more accurate detection of breast cancer
  • Increased cancer detection with CAD-Computer Assisted Diagnosis.  Digital mammography lends itself to CAD, which obtains a second, computerized reading in the hope of finding more cancers or more accurately gauging signs of malignancy
  • Improved patient comfort as flexible paddles sense breast thickness for more comfortable compression
  • Largest detector allows imaging of almost all breast sizes
  • Fewer retakes or callbacks
  • May prevent unnecessary biopsies
  • Faster exam may induce more women to comply with recommended screening intervals
  • Computerized mammograms are archived on PACS, easily retrieved and copied exactly, and may be accessed via PACS workstations at Harrison Hospital or the web.

For additional information on digital mammography, read this recent study - "Digital Mammographic Imaging Screening Trial" (DMIST) - presented on the National Cancer Institute website www.cancer.gov.

PACS
PACS is a computerized method of acquiring, storing and distributing images. Physicians can access patient’s scans and reports online via a secure portal. All AMI locations have this capability and all types of medical imaging are available on PACS.  This system allows for a much faster delivery of the imaging with clear, crisp images on the computer screen. Medical images can be taken in the facility and the images and reports can be accessed, read or viewed by any authorized radiologist or physician at any time, anywhere.  Many physician offices are currently using the AMI PACS to access reports and imaging.
