Pediatric Patients > Ultrasonography

Head: NPO 2 hours prior to examination. Have Mom bring pumped breast milk or formula.

Extremity: NPO 2 hours prior to examination. Have Mom bring pumped breast milk or formula.

Abdomen:NPO (< 4 years, 4 hours; > 4 years, 8 hours) prior to examination. Have Mom bring pumped breast milk or formula.

Pelvis and Renal:In order to have a full bladder, older patients should drink 24 to 32 oz of fluids one hour prior to the examination and not urinate. If possible, have patient come in with full bladder.
